- Definition : A word which has either a heightening or lowering effect on another word
- Examples : Adjectives may be used to intensify nouns - It was a complete disaster - but the most common intensifiers are adverbs, which may intensify adjectives - It was completely disastrous; verbs - I absolutely hated it; or other adverbs He did it ridiculouslybadly.
- Intensifiers may be repeated to give extra emphasis : He was really, reallytired.
